He is a venture capitalist and hedgefund manager you may know from founding PayPal. Peter is a crazy right-wing libertarian neocon, who wants to get as rich as humanly possible so he can build a floating island in international waters to be free from the terrible ravages of the state. He gave the Seasteading Institute $500,000 to help do just that. He believes in mimetic desire; that people are sheep-like and will basically copy one another without much thought. Still, if you want to enrich a man like this, you go right ahead and sign up to Facebook.
However, H&FJ craft mighty fine type, so you should go enrich them instead.
Update: Of course, there comes a time when so many of your friends are on these stupid sites that they are using them instead of email and sms for communication; they reach ubiquity. So alas, I have come one of the herd, and a hypocrite to boot, but at least a pragmatic one.
