Adobe has announced that Freehand is officially dead and no further updates, including maintenance ones, will be forthcoming. Interestingly, you can still buy it though. In a statement, they said, "We've got your money, now fuck off". Us poor hard done-by Freehand users (from version 9 upwards) can crossgrade to Illustrator CS3 for $199 or £139 (representing a 40% increase over the American price for, you know, being British).

DesignObserver has a cute piece on Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Typeface, by Michael Bierut. As a former Catholic schoolboy myself, its all so painfully familiar. Oh the guilt! Go have fun.
